US Senate: Don't Approve Kavanaugh Nomination

Senator Susan Collins announced she will vote yes to confirm embattled nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh to become a US Supreme Court Justice.

With their narrow margin in the Senate, Republicans can only afford to lose one vote if all Democrats vote against Kavanaugh. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., as the only undecided Democrat.

All eyes remain on three Republican senators who have yet to announce how'll they vote: Sens.

The FBI started its probe last week after Flake, the Senate Judiciary Committee's lone swing vote, said he could only move forward with the process if Republican leaders agreed to authorize a limited, week-long investigation into Christine Blasey Ford's accusation against Kavanaugh.

Vice-President Mike Pence planned to be available Saturday in case his tie-breaking vote was needed.

Murkowski voted no on the procedural vote; Flake, Collins and Manchin voted yes.

One of the last obstacles between Brett Kavanaugh and the Supreme Court seat for which he now seems destined has been obliterated by Senate Republicans.

Brian Fallon, executive director of Demand Justice, a group that opposes Trump's judicial nominees, said Kavanaugh would join the court "with a cloud over his head". U.S. Capitol Police said 302 were arrested - among them comedian Amy Schumer, a distant relative of Senate minority leader and New York Democrat Chuck Schumer. Kavanaugh will be confirmed either way. It would also be a triumph for the GOP's conservative base and Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky. Kavanaugh could provide the decisive vote to roll back abortion rights, outlaw affirmative action programs and slash environmental regulations. Collins and how she is likely to respond, Bennett to NEWS CENTER Maine he believes Collins will do what she has done in the past, by exercising her own judgment, which he believes Maine voters have trusted during her four terms in the Senate.

"I took the very, very hard vote that I did". If both Senators vote no, and assuming all other votes are along the same lines, then the Kavanaugh nomination will fall through.

That report was turned over the Senate Judiciary Committee late Wednesday.

Friday morning, Democratic Sen. "I said a few things I should not have said", he wrote in an op-ed published Thursday evening. Protesters greeted senators with shouts of both opposition and support, and at one point the rallying chant "I believe survivors" echoed through a Senate office building. He too has been subjected to in-your-face lobbying by protestors in the Senate hallways, with President Trump calling such activists 'paid professionals'.

McConnell said that defeating Kavanaugh would mean that "media bullying and mob intimidation are valid tactics for shaping the Senate".

Sen. Dianne Feinstein says Brett Kavanaugh's testimony before the Judiciary Committee was "so shocking" it makes him unfit to serve on the Supreme Court.

Democrats maintained that Kavanaugh is an unsuitable candidate. They said he also seemed ready to knock down President Barack Obama's health care law and to rule for Trump if federal authorities probing his 2016 campaign's connections to Russian Federation initiate legal action. Swetnick, who is represented by celebrity lawyer Michael Avenatti, alleges that Kavanaugh was physically abusive toward girls in high school and was at a house party in 1982 where she says she was the victim of a gang rape. Two other women later emerged with sexual misconduct allegations from the 1980s. Kavanaugh has denied all the charges. Given Manchin is a Democrat, prognosticators say it's unlikely he'd cast the deciding vote on Kavanaugh's nomination, meaning Collins now holds the cards in her hand.

A fuming Kavanaugh strode into the same packed hearing room and said he was "100 percent" certain the incident had not occurred.
