The American First Lady, Melania Trump on Tuesday arrived in the Ghana's capital, Accra, to begin her four-nation African tour.

"She had always envisioned that Africa would be her first solo worldwide trip", her communications director, Stephanie Grisham said.

The two first ladies than traveled to Jubilee House, Ghana's presidential palace, for a private meeting. She will head to Kenya, Malawi and wrap up the visit in Egypt.

Ghana's first lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, welcomed her at the airport in Accra.

The 48-year-old is promoting her Be Best initiative, her official agenda unveiled in May created to improve children's well-being.

As she greets dignitaries in the four countries, Melania Trump is expected to engage in the kind of "soft diplomacy" expected of first ladies.

The second leg of her trip will take her to the Cape Coast castle.

Mrs. Trump also cradled an infant and declared the baby a "beautiful boy" as she handed him back to his mother.

".and knows that each country will have its own unique history and culture".

She also wants to focus on maternal and newborn care in hospitals and how the United States is supporting each country on its journey to self-reliance.

The enigmatic U.S. first lady has typically stayed out of the spotlight since her husband became president yet she has made headlines for rare public appearances.

It's also odd that we're somehow supposed to believe that someone complicit in Trump's baleful treatment of immigrant children in the United States would care about African children.

What does Trump hope to accomplish on her first solo trip overseas?

The median age of Africa's more than 1 billion people is only 19.

"Africa is so attractive, the most attractive part of the world, in many ways", he said days before his wife arrived, nine months after he said Nigerians were living in huts and African nations, Haiti and El Salvador were "shithole" countries. "This was her idea", Grisham said. She is in Ghana to advance the cause of her "BE BEST" campaign targeted at empowering children.

"We both love Africa".
