Atiku Abubakar Wins PDP Primary Election With 1532 Votes

"I join our teeming party faithful and supporters to congratulate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the incoming President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, by God's grace, on his nomination as the standard-bearer of the PDP in the 2019 presidential election", he said.

Concise News had reported earlier that the former Vice President emerged victor of the party's presidential primary with 1,532 votes while his closest contender, Aminu Tambuwal, polled 693 votes.

He will face President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 presidential election.

The party led by Buhari, who is seen as an anti-corruption crusader in graft-tainted Nigeria, swept to power in 2015 with the first opposition victory at the ballot box in the country's history.

Other contestants were former Governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang, 19 votes; former President of the Senate, David Mark, 35; former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Kabiru Taminu Turaki, 65; and former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, 96.

Governor Wike took his leave immediately after congratulating victor of the PDP Presidential aspirant, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

"Our party members have spoken and have nominated you as the candidate for the forthcoming Presidential elections".

He has also come under criticism on security issues, including the Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast, long-running farmer-herder clashes in the centre and militancy and kidnapping in the south.

The presidential flagbearer of the party will emerge from the convention.

The Senate President said "Our just concluded convention was a partisan event which the country can show-case as an example that democracy has a future in Nigeria and that when we are determined we can elect our leaders without any manipulation, intimidation and violation of the law and democratic norms".
