The cartoon was intended as a lampoon of the tennis star's angry exchanges with chair umpire Carlos Ramos at the U.S. Women's Singles final in NY on Saturday.

The cartoonist who turned Serena Williams into an angry baby throwing a tantrum during Saturday's women's US Open final said his cartoon wasn't about race and accused the world of going "crazy". That match descended into chaos - with thousands of spectators booing and both players crying during the trophy ceremony - after Williams confronted Ramos about his rulings.

There were a lot of big moments in the women's final of the US Open, with Williams getting into a heated exchange with chair umpire Carlos Ramos late in the second set over his calls.

"I am all for female athletes expressing themselves out there - I want to see it more with the younger players who I coach - and I don't think there is anything wrong with that but you have also got to know when to draw a line". They're thinking, "What if?'"

Osaka had been composed on the court but became clearly emotional after winning, and pulled her visor over her face as Williams put a comforting arm around her. She angrily called Ramos a "thief," pointed out that she has never cheated, mentioned how she tries to set an example for her daughter and demanded an apology.

But her long-term outlook is just fine if her reported new apparel deal is any indication.

Ramos ultimately charged Williams with three infractions: the illegal coaching, racket abuse, and- after calling Ramous a "thief" and a "liar"- another violation for verbal abuse.

The incident has gobbled headlines all week, with some, such as Billie Jean King and USTA head Katrina Adams, saying tennis has a double standard in which men are not similarly punished for outbursts and others, such as Martina Navratilova and Mary Carillo, defending tennis's rules.

"The umpiring fraternity is thoroughly disturbed at being abandoned" by officials with the Women's Tennis Association who questioned Ramos' rulings in such a high-profile contest, Ings said. "We do not believe that this was done last night", CEO Steve Simon said in a statement.

Portuguese newspaper Tribuna Expresso reported that Ramos had avoided walking the streets of NY on Sunday to avoid any "complicated situations".

"It's an unhappy situation but à la carte refereeing doesn't exist", added the 47-year-old seasoned umpire. "Do not worry about me".

He is still set to officiate a Davis Cup match this Friday between the United States and Croatia.
