Shares of Tesla fell 1.3% in trading before the bell.

"You probably can't do this because of stockholders, right?" Recreational marijuana is legal in California.

Tesla's stock traded about 5% lower in premarket action on Friday, with news that Chief Accounting Officer Dave Morton had resigned, among the factors weighing on shares.

"I think the future in where we are a space-faring civilization out there among the stars, that is very exciting", Musk said.

Tesla's head of human resources, Gabrielle Toledano, who is now on a leave of absence, told Bloomberg News Friday morning that she would not return to Tesla. Musk responded with, "I mean it's legal, right?"

During another exchange, Rogan asked Musk about Tesla's solar roof capabilties, Musk referred to digitally redenred CGI pictures of houses with the technology and stated that the houses do in fact work - except the houses aren't real.

Morton didn't explicitly mention last month's buyout saga in his statement explaining his departure. That tweet prompted controversy and an SEC investigation.

Morton's brief tenure with the company coincided with the aborted go-private push.

Musk told Rogan that running Tesla is the hardest of his several endeavors.

Tesla's stock and bond prices dropped on Wednesday - linked to the row over Musk's comments about Mr Unsworth but also following an unveiling by Mercedes that presents a challenge to the electric vehicle maker. Morton's term of service happened to be a particularly unfortunate month, beginning just the day before Musk announced the stock privatization plan that fizzled out.

The episode also raised concern about Musk's health.

Musk has admitted that running an electric auto and energy company like Tesla is exhausting, and in an interview with the New York Times last month, Musk stated that anyone who could do a better job can take over for him anytime.

Some Wall Street analysts are again calling for Tesla to appoint another senior leader for the company to take the pressure off Elon Musk, or rein in his control.

"I'm not saying it's going to be successful", Musk said, though he noted it has already dug a mile-long tunnel under the streets of Los Angeles.
