'60 Minutes' Executive Producer Jeff Fager Out At CBS

CBS News President David Rhodes announced the departure on Wednesday.

In the texts, which were sent after Duncan went for comment, Hager wrote: 'If you repeat these false accusations without any of your own reporting to back them up, you will be held responsible for harming me'.

He said his contract terminated early "because I sent a text message to one of our own CBS reporters demanding that she be fair in covering the story". "However, he violated company policy and it is our commitment to uphold those policies at every level".

Fager is the third major figure at CBS to lose his job in the past year over misconduct allegations, following news anchor Charlie Rose last November and CBS Corp. Late past year, former "CBS This Morning" host Charlie Rose was sacked after more than 2 dozen women accused him of sexual misconduct.

Jeff Fager, the executive producer of the flagship CBS news program, "60 Minutes", has left the network. Why not roll this violation into the investigations of management practices being conducted by two prominent law firms?

Fager said he would not have thought that one note would have resulted in a dismissal after 36 years at the network, "but it did". "Since Jeff Fager publically referred to our exchange today, I want to be transparent about it", Duncan said.

His exit comes following a series of articles by Ronan Farrow in the New Yorker that included accusations that Fager inappropriately touched employees and that he also allowed harassment in his division. "Bill Owens, who has served as executive editor at 60 Minutes since 2008, will manage the team during the search for a replacement".

The directors then began planning his exit - but reportedly still planned on giving him a $90 million exit package, until the New Yorker published a second story Sunday with six more accusers who also slammed the possibility of a golden parachute.

Linda Bloodworth-Thomason has a different kind of Les Moonves story, but it's as powerful as numerous others unearthed in Ronan Farrow's recent exposé about the fallen CBS chief.

Jeff Fager of the show "60 Minutes Sports" speaks on stage during the Showtime panel presentation of the 2013 Winter Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena, California January 12, 2013.

In a statement, Moonves said, "Untrue allegations from decades ago are now being made against me that are not consistent with who I am".

If you ever watched CBS between 1975 and 1995, the name Linda Bloodworth Thomason should be familiar. CEO Leslie Moonves on Sunday. Now, within a matter of days, both men have departed the network.
