United Nations Command Transfers Korean War Remains Home to the U.S.

"Thank you to Chairman Kim Jong-un for keeping your word & starting the process of sending home the remains of our great and beloved missing fallen!"

Vice President Mike Pence spoke at a ceremony Wednesday to mark the arrival of the remains of USA servicemen from the Korean War - and joining him were two guests who lost their fathers in the war.

The identification process could take several years depending on the condition of the remains, Reuters reported.

The White House said it did not comment on intelligence, Reuters reported, while a senior official at South Korea's presidential office said US and South Korean intelligence agencies are closely looking into various North Korean movements. "Today our boys are coming home". Pence said the flag will be displayed at the Korean War Memorial in Washington, DC.

Byrd said they believe they're American because "there was a lot of military hardware, helmets, canteens. the same kinds of things that we find when we excavate" such sites in South and North Korea. After the president met Kim, Trump declared on Twitter: "There is no longer a Nuclear threat from North Korea".

They have urged patience even as Trump himself has played up positive developments, including the return of apparent remains of more than 50 American troops killed during the Korean War.

The Sanumdong factory produced two Hwasong-15 ICBMs, North Korea's longest-range missiles, but the USA official noted that Pyongyang still had not tested a reliable re-entry vehicle capable of surviving a high-velocity trip through the Earth's atmosphere and delivering a nuclear warhead.

That's because according to The Washington Post, North Korea has continued to build new ballistic missiles despite Trump claiming Kim had pledged to denuclearize.

Military honour guards carry the remains of American soldiers repatriated from North Korea during a repatriation ceremony after arriving to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Honolulu, Hawaii, on 1 August, 2018.

But at the Sohae Satellite Launching Station on North Korea's west coast, workers can be seen dismantling an engine test stand, in line with a promise made to Trump at the summit, though the move is seen as more symbolic since the facility can easily be rebuilt.

Between 1990 and 1994, North Korea returned 208 containers to the US with remains.

The evidence obtained this month is the latest to suggest ongoing activity in North Korea's nuclear and missile facilities.

This spring, however, Trump took a vastly different approach in his dealings with his North Korean counterpart, leading to the "epochal" summit in Singapore in which North Korean denuclearization was agreed upon. But many foreign experts say those were not enough to prove it's serious about its disarmament commitment, saying the North must first submit a list of nuclear assets to be dismantled.

More than 7,600 American servicemembers remain missing from the three-year war, which ended in an armistice instead of a peace treaty.

While the reaction to the Trump-Kim summit at the forum is positive, issues have arisen to give U.S. and other analysts pause. Some of the North's ballistic missiles, including a submarine-launched variant, arealready used in solid-fuel motors.
