White House Responds to Mueller's Latest Russia Indictments - Katie Pavlich

An indictment from the office of special counsel Robert Mueller on Friday alleged that the defendants hacked email accounts of presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's campaign the same day President Donald Trump urged them to find emails that had been deleted from her personal accounts.

Before Friday's indictment, Mueller's team had charged 20 individuals and three companies as part of its investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election and possible ties to Trump's campaign.

Trump, meanwhile, has been criticized for being reluctant to speak publicly about Russian interference into the campaign.

But, there is the little matter of Trump directly asking Russian Federation to hack into Hillary Clinton's emails. "When we confront foreign interference in American elections, it is important for us to avoid thinking politically as Republicans or Democrats and instead to think patriotically as Americans". But Trump also doubled down on his characterization of Mueller's investigation as a "witch hunt" that hurts America's relationship with Russian Federation.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) released an indictment on July 13 charging twelve Russian nationals with committing federal crimes - funded by cryptocurrencies - with the aim of "interfering" in the 2016 U.S. presidential elections.

He said: "I briefed the president".

"They also hacked into the computer networks of a congressional campaign committee and a national political committee".

The longtime GOP strategist acknowledged to CNN that messages included in the latest indictments match ones that he previously released relating to the hacker Guccifer 2.0, but he denied that he is the person referred to in the indictment "because I wasn't in regular contact with members of the Trump campaign". "This is consistent with what we have been saying all along". "Time for Mueller to end this pursuit of the President and say President Trump is completely innocent".

The charges were announced as Mr Trump met the Queen at Windsor Castle.

After the indictments were announced, top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer called on Trump to cancel his meeting with Putin until Russian Federation takes steps to prove it won't interfere in future elections.

Because the Russian officials remain in Russia, it is highly unlikely that they will ever be prosecuted in the United States.

During a joint news conference with British Prime Minister Theresa May on Friday, Mr Trump said he loves the U.S., but also loves "getting along with Russian Federation and China and other countries".

We want to hear from you.

The wreckage of what Robert Mueller's team says were Russian strikes on the U.S. can be measured in damaged reputations and disrupted politics. Anything you do, it's always going to be, "Oh, Russia, he loves Russia".

The GRU, or main intelligence directorate, "has a special status and answers directly to the chief of the general staff, one of the three people who control Russia's portable nuclear control", Reuters reported in 2009, adding that its chief is chosen by the country's president.
