Liverpool tops United in Big House

Liverpool tops United in Big House

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed midfielder Nemanja Matic will miss the start of the Premier League season following his side's 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool.

The "Red Devils" were thumped 4-1 by rivals Liverpool in the International Champions Cup. I don't see the need [to sign a defender].

"The atmosphere was good, but if I was them I wouldn't come. The stadium was empty".

United complete their five-match tour against Real Madrid in Miami on Tuesday.

One of the players who jetted off to Russian Federation this summer was Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic, who helped Serbia to the last 16.

"We are not playing here to improve the team, the dynamic or our routines".

"I have always been hungry, you know that", Sturridge said. But this is not even 30 per cent of my squad.

Klopp was thrilled with his contribution and said: "That's not normal after four days in the club, adapting that well to the style of play". He cannot put too much pressure on, particularly as he admitted last week that if you rush players back after an intense global tournament, they can suffer burn out later in the season. But we can't do it. I can score goals and give assists.

"We are playing just to try to survive and not have some ugly results".

United's executive vice-chairman Woodward has refused to spend excessively this summer and Mourinho has been told he must sell before he can buy after bringing in Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant.

United have made three signings but Mourinho fears he will not land both Leicester's Harry Maguire and Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic before August 9 transfer deadline.

"They thought was a baseball game", Mourinho said. That's all I'm going to do. "I wait to see if it's possible to have one of these players". "We don't have wingers or strikers".

"So we have Alexis (Sanchez) and (Juan) Mata who play every minute of every match and now we have Real Madrid and after that Bayern Munich and that's our start".

This marked Liverpool's final United States tour game, as they now return to Merseyside before travelling to face Napoli in Dublin on Saturday, then hosting Torino at Anfield on August 7.

"I hope that the boys on deserved holidays take care of themselves a bit..." Rather than defend his players, Mourinho chose to throw them under the bus that they failed to park, claiming that the players with him in the U.S. represent "not even 30%" of his full strength team, and that the game "gave me nothing" as a result.
