Jurgen Klopp confident of signing Shaqiri in the next few days

Jurgen Klopp confident of signing Shaqiri in the next few days

Liverpool have opened talks with Stoke City over a deal to sign Xherdan Shaqiri, according to John Percy of The Telegraph.

Shaqiri does have a release clause but the exact details are unknown at this stage, though the fee is believed to be higher than the widely reported £12m.

Stoke are open to offers following their relegation from the Premier League, with Shaqiri unlikely to stick around at a Championship club.

Liverpool have been linked with Shaqiri for weeks now, as they attempt to grab a bargain from relegated side Stoke, but it now appears that the move is drawing closer to reality.

One of Switzerland's star performances in Russian Federation, his last-minute victor against Serbia sent the side through to the World Cup's round of 16 before their campaign drew to a close with a defeat to Sweden. He admitted that he would like to leave following last season's relegation.

Lazio have reportedly joined Liverpool in the race to sign Stoke City winger Xherdan Shaqiri.

But the issue is that Liverpool have a policy of fining clubs who loan their players but then do not play them for a set amount of games.

Barnsey too is excited at the idea, calling it an "excellent" signing for the club.
