Chummy Pompeo Heads to N. Korea to See About Denuclearization

They see "a regime positioning itself to extract every concession it can from the Trump administration - while clinging to nuclear weapons it believes are essential to survival".

Trump's tweet follows reports that US officials believe North Korea has increased production of fuel for nuclear weapons despite agreeing to work toward the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

In the weeks following the Trump-Kim meeting, speculation - especially in the USA media - has been mounting over whether North Korea truly intends to denuclearize and what exactly the process of denuclearization would look like.

Surely, there would at least be a short pause, with North Korea giving some space to the South Koreans and the Chinese to ratchet down the tension and give the real negotiators a chance to put together some kind of agreement more in line with those that had been done in the past. North Korea is achieving its goals - while the president is attempting to fool the American people into believing he got something meaningful in return, and hoping they fall for his flimflam.

The Press Secretary declined to confirm reports that Trump and Kim could meet in September amid the United Nations General Assembly in New York City.

US intelligence officials have separately concluded that Kim was seeking to hide his nuclear weapons stockpile and had no intention of surrendering his arsenal, NBC News reported.

"It would be physically possible to dismantle the bulk of North Korea's programs within a year", said Thomas Countryman, the State Department's top arms control officer under President Barack Obama. Korean language watermark on image as provided by source reads: "KCNA" which is the abbreviation for Korean Central News Agency. But the Trump administration remains cautious; it renewed North Korean sanctions last month even after Trump's praise for his agreement with Kim in Singapore. "I will just say this: Not answering the specific reports we've seen over the weekend ... we are using the full range of our capabilities to understand what North Korea is doing". So, unless the Trump administration is going to scrap the United States nuclear arsenal, then the whole exercise is a sham, and the purported concessions won by the dealmaker in chief don't exist.

"If not for me", he added, "we would now be at War with North Korea!"

The Secretary of State's departure to North Korea on Thursday comes during a period of mounting doubts Kim Jong-un is "trying to deceive" Washington.

"If they have the strategic decision already made to do that and they're cooperative, we can move very quickly", he said.

Former UN weapons inspector David Albright told CNN on Monday that his firm has new information about a secret North Korean facility producing highly enriched, weapons-grade uranium.
