Thunder Forward Paul George Undergoes Successful Knee Surgery

Thunder Forward Paul George Undergoes Successful Knee Surgery

The procedure was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache with Thunder medical personnel present at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles, Calif.

George will likely be out of action six to eight weeks before returning to normal offseason activities.

George and the Thunder were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Utah Jazz in six games, ending George's first season with the team. He returned after the one-game absence and played in all of the Thunder's remaining contests. With knee scopes being fairly common and there being virtually no risk of this being an issue when the 2018-19 season begins, his upcoming date with the open market should not be impacted by today's news. He also missed a game earlier this season with left knee soreness.

In the picture, George said he was in "Good spirits" following the surgery.

George has a player option for $20.7 million for this season, but is expected to decline it to become one of the offseason's most highly pursued free agents.

George finished his first season in Oklahoma City averaging 21.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists, completing one of his most complete individual seasons in the National Basketball Association.
